Caesarstone’s subtle, but beautiful 4130 Clamshell worktops were the finishing touch for this award winning and bespoke ‘Seaside Kitchen’ designed by H. Miller Bros.

h-miller-bros-01The client for this project has a young family (3 boys under 8) so H. Miller Bros had a tall order with this brief in needing to design a kitchen that was both aesthetically pleasing as well as robust and suitable for family life with young children.

The original kitchen was a galley kitchen situated elsewhere in the house, but with H. Miller Bros design expertise the kitchen was moved to a new location and a wall knocked down to create the feature archway and enough space for the large island.

H. Miller Bros take pride in their ability to tease out details from the client to enable them to design something that is unique and special to them. Having seen the pinned-up paper and drawings on the old fridge they translated this into a design element and incorporated the cork board that you see running along the periphery of the kitchen.

The tall cabinetry at the end of the room was purposefully painted in Farrow and Ball’s ‘School House White’ to increase the sense of space. H. Miller Bros explained how the client wished for a streamlined finish so this full height cabinetry hosts all the white goods including oven, microwave, fridge and dishwasher, as well as a gigantic pantry cupboard that creates a real wow moment.

The pantry cabinet is made from oak which adds lovely texture to the kitchen and the bottom of the shelf has been made to match the worktops and acts as a cold shelf to keep things like butter cool, but not cold. Everything is at eye height and easily accessible with neat features included such as a wine rack and rails for hanging wine glasses.

h-miller-bros-04As with all kitchen projects the colours and materials used are one of the biggest considerations for any designer. The wooden fronted cabinets were a contemporary spin on a picture the client shared of some much-loved antique drawers. The colourful floor in ‘China Blue’ was included to add a playful tone to an otherwise more ‘grown-up’ looking kitchen.

The Caesarstone worktops in 4130 Clamshell with its soft fusion of light grey and white tones was added to blend beautifully with the cabinetry. The countertops are not only aesthetically pleasing but their durable nature means they will stand the test of time, couple that with the fact they are easy to clean they will no doubt be a welcome addition in a home with young children.

This wonderful ‘Seaside Kitchen’ led Howard Miller from H. Miller Bros to win the ‘Kitchen Designer of the Year: project cost £30,000 - £50,000’ award and considering all the above intricate and well thought out details it’s not a huge surprise! The finished project creates a wonderful sense of space with playful notes and unique touches that are all perfectly combined with the practical features needed from a modern, family kitchen.
